The television commercial shown above is a rough estimate of a DWI prosecution in Texas. This is basic costs to LOSE the case, not go to trial and try to win it, and thereby avoid most of these costs. However, the REAL cost of a DUI-DWI conviction occurs after the case is closed. Job loss, restrictions on travel, inability to rent a car from Hertz, Avis, etc., limitation of job opportunities, inability to get life insurance (or greatly increased rates), automobile insurance hikes or cancellations and many more penalties and loss of entitlements.
